Chân Cầm Street Guide: Food, Coffee, Tattoo & Hidden Gems in Hanoi's Old Quarter

Short but vibrant, Chân Cầm is a narrow lane connecting Phủ Doãn and Lý Quốc Sư in Hanoi's Old Quarter, and it packs more character per metre than almost anywhere else in the city. Great food, great coffee, and a hidden tattoo studio with one of the best views in the neighbourhood.

Here's what not to miss.

Start with breakfast: Miến Lươn Chân Cầm -  1 Chân Cầm

Start your early morning  with a bowl of miến lươn - glass noodles with braised eel at this Michelin Guide-recognised stall. Go for miến nước (soupy, light, clean) or miến xào (pan-fried, smoky, satisfying). Both are excellent. It's the kind of breakfast that reminds you why Hanoi street food is, quite simply, some of the best on earth.

Get inked: Nhà Atelier Tattoo Studio - 4th Floor, 1B Chân Cầm

One of the best tattoo studios in Hanoi, and a must-visit whether or not you're planning to get inked. Head up to the fourth floor and you'll find a warm, homey space with soft yellows and greens, great natural light, and a view straight onto the leafy colonial building across the street.

This is the second branch of Nhà Atelier Tattoo Studio (the original is at 146 Phan Kế Bính), and it's ideally located for anyone exploring the Old Quarter. If you're looking for a walk-in tattoo studio in Hanoi, a tattoo shop near Hoan Kiem Lake, or simply the best place to get a tattoo in Vietnam as a tourist, this is it.

Browse their flash tattoo collection for ready-to-go designs, including beautiful Vietnam-inspired tattoos (lotus motifs, traditional patterns, minimalist Hanoi illustrations) - perfect as a travel tattoo or souvenir tattoo. Prefer something unique? Message ahead and the team will pair you with an artist for a fully custom tattoo design.

Styles covered include fine line tattoo, blackwork, minimalist tattoo, and illustrative tattoo. The studio maintains high standards of hygiene with sterile equipment and professional tattoo aftercare support -  a safe, trustworthy choice for your first tattoo or your fiftieth. The artists are skilled, friendly, and experienced with international clients. Highly recommended for anyone Googling "tattoo parlour Hanoi Old Quarter" or "tattoo studio in Vietnam".

Loading T Cafe - 8 Chân Cầm

Set inside a charming old villa draped in greenery, Loading T is the perfect mid-morning stop. Order the cà phê trứng (egg coffee), which is rich, creamy, and deeply Vietnamese, and settle in. The atmosphere inside an antique house is warm and lived-in, with wooden details, vintage furniture, and the kind of stillness that's rare in a city that never really stops.

Ngoặm - 19 Chân Cầm

Lunch stop. Ngoặm serves a confident Vietnamese-European fusion menu - familiar local ingredients reimagined through a Western lens. Fresh, inventive, and genuinely worth trying.

Blackbird Coffee - 5 Chân Cầm

A long-standing Hanoi favourite. Excellent coffee, attentive service, and a small intimate space that's ideal for winding down. Come for the brew, stay for the calm.

Chân Cầm is short enough to walk in two minutes but it will be worth your try. You won't regret it.
